Overview
The basic way the MakerScanner works is by:
- projecting a line onto an object
- recording the line's position relative to any flat reference
- computing the 3d geometry based on those numbers

What you need to make a scanner
All of the plastic parts you can print on a Makerbot! That means the only things you need are:
- Makerbot 3d printer
- PS3 Eye USB Camera
- Laser line pointer
- 2 AA battery holder
- 2 AA batteries
