The basic way the MakerScanner works is by:

  • projecting a line onto an object
  • recording the line's position relative to any flat reference
  • computing the 3d geometry based on those numbers

What you need to make a scanner

All of the plastic parts you can print on a Makerbot! That means the only things you need are:

  • Makerbot 3d printer
  • PS3 Eye USB Camera
  • Laser line pointer
  • 2 AA battery holder
  • 2 AA batteries
